Open Futures is an education initiative for Primary Schools funded and directed by The Helen Hamlyn Trust. Its purpose is to help children discover and develop practical skills, personal interests and values which will contribute to their education and enhance their adult lives. The programme has four strands – growit, cookit, filmit and askit – developed with and delivered by partner individuals and organisations. Lady Hamlyn asked Applied Information Group to create a look and feel for the programme that could handle the complexity of resources and different requirements while remaining accessible and attractive for the primary school children, teachers and parents who are the intended audience. The design uses expressive icons, friendly typography and bold colours as elements in a visual language that works in printed materials as well as online, creating a fresh and familiar visual identity across the whole range from the teachers’ resources packs to promotional literature. The programme website underwent a major overhaul in 2009 and was re-launched in 2010, in order to make it a more integral part of the learning environment.
