Director of Planning

As director of planning at AIG, Richard leads the urban and transport planning work for wayfinding systems in cities including London, Vancouver, Glasgow, Leeds, Brighton and Ipswich, ensuring consistent methodologies for naming, placement, routes and modal integration, and playing an important part in designing and conducting consultations with stakeholders and local communities.

Prior to joining AIG, Richard worked as a traffic engineer, transport planner and consultant at a number of the leading consultancies in this field, including WSP, Atkins, TecnEcon/Acer, Urban Initiatives and Buro Happold, and as a director at iCube he oversaw the design and implementation of the Brick Lane Environmental Improvement Scheme.

Richard’s experience ranges from pedestrian and transport modelling, masterplanning projects and environmental improvement schemes to studies for wayfinding, town centres and public realm management. His specialist focus is on the relationship between land use and movement, and he sits on the Steering Group for the Accessibility and User Needs in Transport for Sustainable Environments.
