Martin has been programming since 1968. After studying Physics at University, Martin took up a career in IT. He left the UK in 1981 to work in France for ICL as a consultant, and later set-up his own consulting firm there. In late 1996, Martin took up a post with the Joint Research Centre of the European Commission, in Italy. He designed a C++ framework that foreshadowed later commercial offerings such as ColdFusion. He was working in London in 2000, where he met Tim Fendley while working at Icon MedialLab as Chief Project Manager, having managed major projects for Sony, Motorola, and Pirelli.
Back in Italy, Martin designed an advanced system to provide map-based information to Humanitarian Aid Agencies (EC ECHO, UN OCHA) in the aftermath of sudden-onset disaster, such as Earthquakes. He later cooperated on a research project to perform digital soil mapping, and advanced statistical clustering, leading to publication of a scientific paper as co-author.
Since arriving at AIG, Martin has been heading the research and development of leading-edge digital cartography methods and systems, and indulges 'blue-sky futurology' with Tim and Gary.
